Haematology

This unique department is a boon to many patients suffering from various Blood diseases including Blood cancers, Clotting and Bleeding disorders, Hemophilias and Thalassaemias.

The department is the Brain Child of the eminent Hematologist Dr. Shashikant Apte, and was started in the year 2003.

Backed by an efficient Blood Bank with component separation facilities and highly advanced haematology laboratory along with a special unit specifically designed for Bone Marrow Transplantation. This department is fully equipped to diagnose and treat common and uncommon diseases of the blood.

Blood Bank

The inception of Sahyadri Hospital Blood Bank was done on 30th Dec 2005.It is situated on 6th floor of Karve Road building & functioning round the clock. We have infrastructure established for whole blood & component therapy. It offers 24 hours service to Inpatients of Sahyadri Group, as well as other hospitals. Blood is collected from Voluntary Replacement and Autologous donors.

Voluntary Blood Donation Camps as per the Food and Drug Administration norms are conducted almost twice weekly. Aim is to collect 100% voluntary collection as per the requirements of National Policy. Screening tests for HIV, HBSAg, HCV, VDRL, MP and atypical antibody test with latest generation kits to reduce the window period of a donor, to issue safest blood to our patients.

95% of blood collected is converted to blood components and leukodepleted to minimize post transfusion reaction to near zero. Compatibility tests are done by gel technology.
