What is Acute failure?
Inability to remove toxins from the blood due Inability dysfunction of the Kidney, results in Kidney (Renal) Failure.
If this happens rapidly it is Acute Renal failure. ARF can occurs in 5% of Hospitalized patients for any reason, more commonly in ICU patients.
What is Chronic renal failure?
The kidney fail gradually over years. Even a single kidney functioning well or both kidneys functioning at 50% can still maintain the balance with no symptoms.
Easy Signs of CRF are Fatigue, frequent urge to urinate, itchy skin, Nausea, Shortness of breath, swollen feet, hands & face. Late signs are Blood in urine, Anamia, Bone, lung and heart disease, Hypertension (High BP)
What is dialysis?
Dialysis is an artificial process of getting rid of waste (diffusion) and unwanted water (ultra filtration) from the blood. It acts as an artificial kidney.
If I am on dialysis what diet should I eat?
Contact your dietician for help. Try to eat extra snack between meals, if appetite is poor. Use full cream milk instead of low fat milk. If youre not diabetic, include more sugars.
